This review covers the host interactions of the viruses, including the rodent reservoirs, the clinical outcome of human infections as well as the pathogenesis and laboratory diagnosis of infections. The current stage in prophylaxis and therapy of hantaviral diseases is described and different approaches in vaccine development are discussed.
