Afar in Ethiopia is a special place. It is here where the oldest human (Lucy) has been discovered. It is also a vast arid territory with amazing geological features.
It hardly ever rains in Afar – but when it rains it is a blessing. On October 1st 2019 it rained as it had not rained in more than 25 years. The perpetual clear sky was packed with clouds and in the normally dry river beds flood water started to flow. Part of that flood water was diverted to the land by water spreading weirs and served local farms.
