By studying rats and residents on the same blocks, this study found that lower-income residents had more exposure to rat urine but rats were more likely to carry Leptospira interrogans in higherincome areas with higher rat abundance, highlighting social and ecological processes that
increase leptospirosis risk for people and domestic animals.
